Daily permits are required to access any land in Rocklands.  There are currently two types of permits, those required to access land owned by Cape Nature and those required for access to land that falls on private property.

Bouldering areas that fall on Cape Nature land include Fortress, Otherside, Campside, Champside, Riverside, Taaiboshkraal, Roadcrew and Roadside.  The Clanwilliam Tourism Office (open Monday to Friday and half day Saturday) issues daily permits for access to all Cape Nature land.  These can be purchased for up to a week in advance and cost R30 per person per day. 

Whilst the Clanwilliam Tourism Office facilitates the purchase of permits they are unable to take payment over the telephone or online therefore it may be necessary to visit them in Clanwilliam and pay cash.  Arrangements to leave money with your accommodation may be possible but you will need to arrange this with them yourself.

Depending on the length of your stay in Rocklands and whether you intend to visit other South African National Parks it may be cheaper for you to purchase a Wildcard.  A Wildcard is a loyalty card which provides international visitors and South African's free access to South African National Parks for 1 year.

Whilst a Wild Card means that permits do not have to be paid for they must still be obtained when entering Cape Nature land.  Since no money needs to exchanged for permits, permits can be faxed in advance.

All other bouldering areas fall on private land.  Bouldering areas on De Pakhuys land include Plateau and its surrounding areas, Fields of Joy and The Coup.  Daily permits must be purchased from the De Pakhuys office prior to access for R30 per person per day.

Access to 8 Day Rain Sector and Sassies requires permission from the Travellers Rest office as well as a payment of R30 per person per day.
