Rocklands boulders are arguably the best in the world but access to them will be threatened unless climbers come together and respect a set of simple rules.

Permits

  • Access to all bouldering areas in Rocklands requires a valid permit.

Access

  • Access is only by established paths, never by walking across vegetation, and never on paths marked as closed.
  • At the boulders pads, packs and people should never rest on vegetation, only on bare soil or rocks.
  • Climbers must never approach boulders marked as closed (archeological sites)
  • Pets are NOT allowed into the Cape Nature controlled areas.

Waste

  • Climbers MUST NOT leave waste in the Cape Nature area.  All finger tape, cigarette butts, tissue paper, spilt chalk, fruit peels and any other form of litter MUST be carried out.
  • Human waste should be carried out, or buried at least 15 centimetres below the surface, not left under rocks.  Paper tissue MUST be carried out.

General Behavior

  • Climbers should not cut or move ANY vegetation including small trees or plants growing against the faces of boulders.
  • Climbers should NOT move large boulders.
  • Climbers MUST brush off excessive tick-marks before leaving the boulder.
  • Climbers must NOT boulder on the fragile dark coloured 'grainy' sandstone when it is damp after rain as the rock is friable.
  • Climbers should NEVER feed animals such as baboons or leave food waste behind.
  • Pads, food or water should NEVER be ‘’stashed” in the Cape Nature areas overnight.
  • Pads should never be dragged along when accessing the boulders.
  • Absolutely NO fires are to be made within the Cape Nature areas.
