A large part of Rocklands falls under the Cederberg Wilderness Area.  The Cederberg Wilderness Area has a high conservation status in terms of existing South African legislation, furthermore the Cederberg has been declared a World Heritage Site.

Cape Nature are the designated managers of the Cederberg Wilderness Area and the management of Rocklands falls within the Cape Nature special management zone.  This zoning requires that access the Cederberg Wilderness Area be controlled under a permit system.  Access to this area without a permit is not only illegal but could effect future access.
